Whoas Publisher

This document enumerates the behaviors of the Whoas Publisher implementation and should be useful for any server-side implementer who is on the receiving end of Whoas-driven webhooks.

By default the publisher is expecting to send and receive only JSON data.

User Agent

The Whoas Publisher code will identify itself with: whoas-publisher/<version> where the supplied version is the version of Whoas code performing the request

Retry Behavior

  • 2xx response codes are considered successes and discarded

  • 3xx response codes are followed no more than 3 levels

  • 400 response codes should be discarded

  • 420 response codes are retried per back-off logic

  • 5xx response codes are retried per back-off logic

Back-off logic

  • Exponential back-off from 500ms

  • No more than 5 attempts

  • Failures after 5 attempts are logged as errors and discarded
